The British (Yarn) Invasion

Somewhere near the beginning of my crochet journey, I was watching instructional videos on YouTube when I came across the lovely Sarah-Jayne of the Bella Coco channel. Now Sarah-Jayne did two very dangerous (for me) things.

  1. She used yarn so gorgeous I wanted some.
  2.  She told me where to get it! She even pasted a link right there below the video! Dastardly!

Her accent made it impossible for me to resist. Just kidding, but I am a sucker for a British accent. Who’s with me?

I clicked on the link, because, of course I did, but for some reason I didn’t make the connection that since Sarah-Jayne is a Brit, she would be directing me to a UK-based retailer: LoveKnitting. (FYI, I’m not sure when this changed, but the links to yarn on Sarah-Jayne’s videos now go to the store on her website. 🙂 )

And that, dear readers, is how I first discovered British yarn and their ubiquitous DK (double-knit AKA light worsted weight). That is also how I discovered several other wonderful European yarn companies from countries including Germany, France, and Norway.

It was on the YouTube channel It’s all in a Nutshell Crochet that I initially heard about Scheepjes, a company based in the Netherlands. Now I am singlehandedly keeping that company in business by purchasing oodles upon oodles of their yarn… Okay, well, maybe not exactly singlehandedly, but close! 😉

Remember these skeins of Scheepjes Colour Crafter from my post on too much yarn?

What fantastic overseas yarns have you discovered?

Rainbow colors are my kryptonite! Lol

The rainbow skein is the Rum Paradise colorway under the Aire Valley Aran (Print or Cocktail) line by West Yorkshire Spinners. The gigantic skein is Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran with Wool in the colorway Lilac Dawn. Enjoy!

Thank you for being brave and ordering! I too am a sucker for the accent and LOVE every youtube pattern tutorial that I watch from everywhere ‘across the pond’ especially Bella Coco – Sarah-Jayne is ‘BRILLIANT’! I love especially when she’s working her ‘fiddly’ stitches! I have to admit I love all the yarn that I see my friends from the UK using but the currency symbols scared me! Now I will screw up some courage to have a go at getting some instead of just drooling while I watch them using it! Buying the yarn from her site is probably part of an affiliate program so she will get a portion of the sale so yaaaay! Well first I should use up the enormous mound of yarn I just picked up at Michael’s the other night. 😀
